According to the Angolan bishops of the dioceses of Luanda, Viana and Caxito, ecclesiastical provinces of the Archdiocese of Luanda, the "Catholic Church of World Unity, the Orthodox Catholic Church and the Association of Pilgrims of St. Rita of Cascia who are not in communion with Pope Francis".

In a note of clarification from the Interdiocesan Tribunal of First Instance of the Ecclesiastical Province of Luanda, made public this Friday, the Angolan Catholic prelates clarify that the use of names, terms, symbols and institutions "proper of the Catholic Church by other religious denominations, distinct from it, can generate misunderstanding and confusion among the Catholic faithful."

The archbishop of Luanda, Filomeno Vieira Dias, the bishop of Viana, Emílio Sumbelelo, and the bishop of Caxito, Maurício Agostinho Camuto signed the note and asked the authorities for "administrative and judicial measures".

The Catholic bishops, assigned to CEAST, also warn about what they consider "disrespect and impunity of the infraction" of the law on freedom of religion and worship in relation to the "full respect of religious symbols and objects of legalized religious confessions".

According to the Angolan bishops, the use of the words Catholic, parish, friar, priest, bishops "can lead to deception and error," warning that "any presumed sacraments performed by these religious denominations are invalid and void for the Catholic faithful."

They can also bring "serious spiritual and pastoral consequences, as well as canonical sanctions that, in serious situations, can go as far as excommunication," they warn.

Community catechists and the coordinators of the various apostolic movements and Catholic associations, they note, "should report to their respective parish priests those faithful who, even knowing the danger they run, frequent such places".
