Five years later, Fazenda do Longa resumes large-scale rice production

After a five-year standstill, the Longa Agro-Industrial Farm, in Cuando Cubango, resumed last Monday, September 13, the large-scale production of rice.

The population was pleased with the recovery of one of the largest rice production units in the country, budgeted at about 70 million dollars.

"It is a great joy for our province of Cuando Cubango. Looking in the context of prices, especially related to rice, it will make it much easier. One of the advantages is that it will be an open door for jobs for young people and it is a great benefit for our province and congratulations are in order for the initiative," said a citizen, in statements to Radio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

Another citizen, also speaking to RNA, applauded the initiative and congratulated the Executive: "Congratulations to the Executive that thought again about rehabilitating the farm and this will help families, especially the most vulnerable families".

Fazenda do Longa is, along with four other farms in the country, one of the infrastructures that have been privatized by the State. According to RNA, the creation of jobs for young people is seen as one of the biggest gains.

The high difficulties in importing rice seeds from China, due to the economic crisis that hit the country in 2014, forced the former management of the farm to stop production. However, now with the new management it becomes possible to resume the production of this cereal.
