At the moment, "the country has an availability that corresponds to an autonomy of up to 16 days, a perfectly calm autonomy. Therefore, there is no problem with the level of availability of the product", informed the President of the Executive Committee (PCE) of the Unit of Business, Distribution and Commercialization (UNDC) of the state oil company, Eugénio Vunge, commenting on the possible lack of fuel in some parts of the country, with emphasis on the provinces of Cabinda and Zaire.
The official also spoke about the floods that have been registered in the north and east of the country. Cited by Jornal de Angola, Eugénio Vunge indicated that accessibility, distribution, logistics and smuggling are the main reasons for the origin of the long lines.
He explained that accessibility has been conditioning the return of fuel in advance in some of these areas, especially those with less accessibility.
With regard to distribution and logistics, the flag oil company has experienced operational problems, but stressed that despite these obstacles, Sonangol has made every effort to take and replace fuel in those areas.
However, he said Sonangol's efforts are often unsuccessful due to fuel smuggling: "Sometimes the fuel ends up in less suitable channels. The daily consumption is changed because of this fact".
He recalled that the oil company has some projects underway to try to solve the problem of flooding at the fuel pumps, with emphasis on the construction of the Cabinda Refinery, the inauguration of a fuel infrastructure in Saurimo, capable of housing 900 cubic meters, and also the branch of the Moxico Railway, which will facilitate the transport of fuel from one side to the other.
