Gas and renewable energy in Sonangol's sights. Oil company invests in new gas plant

The flagship oil company will move forward with new investments in gas and renewable energy. Sonangol will invest in the construction of a new gas plant, which will increase production of cooking gas and expand its business in regional markets.

The new gas plant, according to Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), will be built in the area adjacent to the Barra do Dande ocean terminal.

Manuel de Barros, chairman of the Executive Committee of Sonangol's Gas and Renewable Energy Business Unit, explained to RNA that this is "an infrastructure designed for the next 30 years.

The project, according to Barros, "will triple the capacity of our Carlos Pinto Nogueira facility," giving the company greater autonomy.

For now the oil company's priority is the domestic market, but the goal is to expand the business across borders.

"We have perspectives to attack the Namibian and Zambian market (...)", he said, adding that "the priority has been dedicated to the domestic market", but as soon as sufficient conditions are created "at the level of the other two countries" exports will begin, concluded the responsible.
