"The Portuguese coach, 51 years old, will have the responsibility to lead the main team of the 1st of August, in the 2020/21 season (with another year of option)", revealed the club, in a statement published on its official website.
The Portuguese coach has already passed through the União de Leiria de Portugal and the French Le Mans. Besides the clubs, Paulo Duarte also guided the national teams of Gabon and Burkina Faso.
"The new coach, red-black, was noted in the service of the Burkinabe national team, with whom he reached 3rd place in the CAN 2017, played in Gabon," the statement said.
Paulo Duarte, who should arrive in Angola next week, will thus replace Bosnian coach Dragan Jovic - who helped the 1st of August to win the last three championships. On August 1st, the Portuguese coach will have three Angolan coaches as assistants.
The 'Girabola' of 2020/21, scheduled to start on October 3, but conditioned due to the evolution of the covid-19 pandemic, was drawn last Wednesday.
On the first day two Portuguese coaches will face each other: Paulo Duarte, for the 1st of August, and Ivo Campos, who guides the Interclube, in the biggest game of the round.
