The confirmation was made by the club, on its official Facebook page. José Neto thus becomes Petro's first Brazilian coach in this modality, signing a contract for one season. He replaces Cameroonian Lazare Adingono, who held the position for eight years.
In tricolor, the coach will be co-adjudicated by former Angolan international Aníbal Moreira.
Although there is still no scheduled start date, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the next season is challenging for Petro, involved in several competitions. National Championship, Angola Cup and Ball League (the biggest competition of clubs in the African continent) will be the challenges of oil companies for the season that will start.
At the helm of Atlético Petróleos de Luanda's main team were Vladimiro Romero, Paulo Jorge, Nuno Teixeira, Raúl Duarte, Victorino Cunha, Alberto Babo, Alberto de Carvalho "Ginguba" and Lazare Adingono, recalls Angop.
José Neto's curriculum includes four Brazilian championships, five Rio championships, an Intercontinental Cup and a FIBA League of the Americas, the command of the Brazilian women's team, among others, and several individual coach awards of the year and even of the decade.
It is also recalled that this season the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB) decided to cancel the national championship due to the presence of the covid-19 in the country. The sport was put on hold in March, when the country entered a state of emergency. At the time, the league table was led by Petro de Luanda (49 points), followed by 1º de Agosto and Interclube - both with 44 points.
