The covid-19 pandemic caused difficulties for the zungueiras in the exercise of their activity, with an impact mainly on the satisfaction of basic needs, revealed a study released in Luanda.

The qualitative research, on the "Impact of Covid-19 on the Life of Zungueiras Women in Luanda", was prepared by the Observatory of Public Policies from the Gender Perspective (ASSOGE).

The document, to which the Lusa agency had access, refers that the pandemic caused difficulties to the activity of the zungueiras in terms of customers, acquisition of goods and sales, among others.

The mobility difficulties had a significant impact on the exercise of his activity, either due to the lack of transport, or due to the limited hours and days of sales and / or sanitary fences.

The study also reveals that changes in the business environment due to the pandemic have further burdened women, with cases of unemployment among their partners, with losses varying between 50 and 85 percent.

"The decrease in the profit margin has intensified the precarious living conditions of the zungueiras and their families", points out the report, prepared between 22 June and 31 July.

According to the study, most of the zungueiras, who live mainly in peri-urban areas, sell food, live in a de facto union (34 percent) and their husbands contribute financially to the household.

Regarding the relationship with the authorities, the research indicates that this happens mainly in contact with the inspectors and police, whose action has been described as the usual one - violence, seizure of goods, detention or payment of money (bribes).

The interviewees did not directly attribute the Government's measures to their current condition, but to the disease, recognizing that they "guarantee the prevention of disease and protect the people".

On the other hand, they complained that the information disseminated about the prevention of covid-19 focuses only on the prevention of contagion, and not on how to survive the disease, although they have shown sensitivity to follow the guidelines.

The study sought to understand the impact of covid-19 on the lives of female bugs, in Luanda, between the months of March and May.

Among the measures to prevent and combat the pandemic imposed by the authorities, the national health fence stood out, interdiction of travel and stay on the public road, mandatory use of a mask, physical distance, hand washing, prohibition of public celebrations and mandatory confinement, among others, namely limited days of sale in official markets and on the street.
