Eight out of 10 Angolans give negative rating to the Government's economic performance

About eight out of 10 Angolans consider the government of the country to be performing "bad" or "very bad" in the development of its economy, according to a study by Afrobarometer.

"About eight out of 10 Angolans rate the Government's performance in maintaining price stability (78 percent), creating jobs (75 percent), improving the living conditions of the government as" bad "or" very bad " poor (75 percent) and the general management of the economy (71 percent).

According to data released by Afrobarometer, a pan-African, non-partisan research network that provides quantitative data on Africans' experience and assessment of democracy, governance and quality of life, residents of the provinces of Luanda and Cabinda they are the most dissatisfied with the performance of the João Lourenço Government.

In the case of Luanda, 88 percent of respondents are unhappy with the executive's performance in job creation, while 90 percent are unhappy with the Government's performance in maintaining price stability.

In Cabinda, the study reports that 90 percent of respondents are unhappy with their job creation performance and 89 percent are not satisfied with the Government's work to maintain price stability.

"These very negative assessments that Angolans make on the government's macroeconomic performance also reveal the challenges that the country faces in achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 8 ('Decent work and economic growth') and N .º 10 ('Reduction of inequalities') ", underlines the document.

In the urban environment, the disapproval of the Government's performance in job creation stands at 80 percent, while in rural areas it reaches 65 percent.

Regarding the assessment of the executive's performance in maintaining price stability, 84 percent of the population in urban regions is dissatisfied, while in rural regions the failure rate reaches 68 percent.

There is also a higher failure rate for Government performance depending on the level of formal education obtained.

According to the data released, 64 percent of the population without formal education is not satisfied with their job creation performance and 67 percent does not approve of the efforts made to maintain price stability.

On the other hand, the population with a university degree has a failure rate of 88 percent in terms of job creation and 90 percent in terms of maintaining price stability.

For this survey, the Afrobarometer team, led by Ovilongwa - Public Opinion Studies, interviewed 2,400 adult Angolans, between 27 November and 27 December 2019.
