João Lourenço creates Economic and Social Council with 45 members

President João Lourenço formalized, by means of a decree, the creation of the Economic and Social Council, which will consist of 45 members, according to a press release from the President's Civil House.

:

The “new space for dialogue with society” had been announced by the President of the Republic in May at a meeting in Luanda with representatives of civil society to assess the impact of covid-19 on companies and families.

According to the note from the Casa Civil, the existence of the Economic and Social Council will allow João Lourenço to receive “contributions from the business community, from cooperatives, from the academic scientific community, from associations dealing with the socio-economic development of women and young people, thus ensuring their more active participation in aspects of programming and execution of national development tasks ”.

The Council consists of forty-five members, chosen from recognized experts in the fields of economic and social sciences, as well as entrepreneurs and managers who will serve a two-year term.

For now, the chief executive has appointed 40 elements, including economists Carlos Rosado de Carvalho, Precioso Domingos, Yuri Quixina and Manuel Alves da Rocha, businessmen from various branches such as Pedro Godinho Domingos, José Severino, Manuel Sumbula and Domingos Vunge, environmentalists like Vladimir Russo, etc.

The list will be completed with five more names yet to be designated.

The Economic and Social Council “is a body for reflecting on issues of macro-economic, business and social specialty, which is available to the Holder of the Executive Branch for the purposes of consulting matters of interest to the Executive”, the note also stresses, explaining that this autonomous body does not integrate the Public Administration.
