The defense ministers of Portugal, João Gomes Cravinho, and Angola, José Ernesto dos Santos, met this Friday, by videoconference, and one of the topics under analysis was the "very positive evaluation of bilateral cooperation in the field of defense "and concluded by" their interest in resuming military-technical advisory and training activities temporarily suspended due to the pandemic ", in addition to" beginning to make adjustments to the programs in force ", according to a statement from the MDN.

Cyber ​​defense and increased cooperation on security were also on the agenda at the meeting and in which Gomes Cravinho invited José Ernesto dos Santos on a visit to Portugal.

In the chapter on multilateral cooperation, the two ministers "exchanged views on the importance of relaunching the defense component of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and the potential for both countries to participate in peacekeeping missions and operations".

At the meeting, according to the statement, the Defense Minister reiterated his "willingness to continue providing support to the League of Combatants in the mission of requalifying the graves of former Portuguese combatants".

The governments of Portugal and Angola signed the Framework Program of Cooperation between the two countries for the period 2018 and 2021 two years ago, which provides, in particular, for the education and training of Angolan military personnel in Portuguese military and non-military education establishments.
