Work on "marginalized" ex-FAPLA gives victory to Honório Quimbuari in the 2nd edition of the National Press

A work on the "voice of the marginalized" of the former People's Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA) enabled Quimbuari to win the 2nd edition of the National Press Literature Prize. The prize was awarded this Monday, September 14th.

In the race for the award, which aims to "valorize national talent and promote the dissemination of works by unknown authors in the Angolan literary market," besides Honório Quimbuari, there were 69 other authors. However, the jury eventually chose the work "Os Heróis que não Sabiam Voar" (The Heroes Who Didn't Know How to Fly), written by the 34-year-old native of Luanda, reports Novo Jornal.

With this achievement, Honório Quimbuari will be able to publish 1000 copies of his work. The prize also foresees the attribution of one million kwanzas to the winner.

The 1st edition of the National Press Literature Prize arrived last year. However, the 2019 edition ended without a winner because the jury considered that the more than 30 works that were competing lacked "aesthetic and structural accuracy" as well as "evidence of a circumstantial and immediate elaboration".

According to the same newspaper, this year the jury - which was again the same as last year - considered that there was an improvement in the quality of the works.

Originality, a contribution to national culture and respect for the characteristics of the literary genre were the factors considered by the jury when evaluating the works.
