Angolan forward Chico Banza joins Portimonense on loan

Striker Chico Banza will join Portimonense, Portugal, on a season-long loan from the cypriot team Anorthosis, the Portuguese II League football club announced.

The 25-year-old forward returns to Portuguese football, where he played for Leixões and Marítimo between 2017 and 2020, after having completed his training at Interclube in Angola.

Four years ago, the Angolan international moved from Madeira to Cyprus, where he has already represented Nea Salamis, PO Xylotymbou and Anorthosis, for whom he played 24 games and scored six goals last season.

Chico Banza is the ninth reinforcement for the Algarve team, who were relegated to the second tier, joining goalkeepers Philip Tear and Pedro Bez, defender Kelechi John, midfielders Geovane and Francisco Varela, and forwards Paulo Vítor, Ruan and Elijah Benedict.

After the first two rounds of the II League, Portimonense is in 17th place, with one point, visiting Mafra for the third round, in a game scheduled for Sunday, at 6 pm.
