15-year-old Angolan becomes world youth MMA champion

This Thursday, an Angolan woman became world youth champion in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). She is Mayra Lemos, a 15-year-old athlete who won gold at the MMA World Championship in cadets and youth categories, after defeating her English opponent in the final.

According to Angop, in the final of the 62-kilogram category, the Angolan athlete faced the English Valentina Pensavalle in the ring, who was defeated by Mayra Lemos, who secured the gold medal.

However, before reaching the final, the Angolan athlete had to fight Marita Abou Farhat (Lebanon) and Karina Potapova (Ukraine). It was by defeating these two opponents that Mayra Lemos reached the final of the championship, which is taking place in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).

In the championship, the country has four medals (one gold and three bronze).

The bronze medals were won by athletes Albertina Ntyamba, Stélvia Muhanha and Cláudio Fontoura.

According to Angop, Angola is one of the two African countries participating in this competition. South Africa is the other African country present in the event, in which a total of 40 countries are participating.
