In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the measure will allow the “legitimate Government of the Central African Republic to fully exercise its sovereign function of guaranteeing its integrity and national security”.
The ministry recalls that, “on several occasions”, President João Lourenço, as acting president of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), “advocated in favor of lifting the aforementioned embargo”, as mandated by the organization’s mini-summit of heads of state and government, held in Luanda on January 29, 2021.
The resolution voted on July 30 prevents the supply, sale or transfer of weapons and related material to armed groups in the CAR.
