The announcement of the signing of the Angolan was advanced by Benfica, in a statement to which VerAngola had access. "Artémis Afonso, 30 years old, is a member of the Sport Lisboa e Benfica women's basketball team", reads the note.

The Angolan thus leaves the NBF Castelló, which she represented for two seasons, to wear the red and white jersey, a club that Artémis Afonso says has been her "since she was a little girl".

"Representing Benfica is a dream. I'm a staunch supporter. Now, playing with this symbol on my chest is a huge responsibility, but I'm ready for it", said the Angolan, quoted in Benfica's note.

In her professional career, the statement said, the basketball player wore the jerseys of clubs such as "AD Vagos, Olivais FC, Quinta dos Lombos, Algés, Carnide Clube and Imortal", and after "two experiences in Spanish basketball, first in ADBA, then at NBF Castelló", returns to Portuguese soil "to Benfica". "It's very good. It's coming back big", added the athlete.

"Having many good results, because that is Benfica's tradition. Winning and being in all the finals of the competitions we are contesting", said the Angolan, who also took the opportunity to leave a message to the fans: "Continue to be what you are A lot of drive, a lot of support for all sports, because that's what we're going to need throughout the season", he indicated, quoted in the statement.
