CPLP: João Lourenço receives José Aparecido de Oliveira Award dedicated to the people of the organization

The President of the Republic dedicated the José Aparecido de Oliveira Prize, which he was awarded at the summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), to the people of the organisation.

:

“I dedicate this award to all our peoples, because it is for them that we have been building together an increasingly solid and comprehensive Community, inclusive and determined to overcome the contingencies of a complex world and with great challenges to overcome”, said João Lawrence.

The biennial award, established in 2011, promotes the attribution of a diploma of merit and a pecuniary contribution, honoring the personalities and institutions that distinguish themselves in the areas of defense, appreciation and promotion of the principles, values and objectives of the CPLP , as well as carrying out studies and research work.

The name of João Lourenço was proposed by the Union of Portuguese Speaking Capital Cities (UCCLA) and the CPLP Consultative Observers.

In the intervention of thanks for the distinction, João Lourenço announced that the associated pecuniary amount will be donated to the Youth Association of Support to Needy Young People (JUCARENTE), an Angolan social solidarity institution that operates in the municipalities of Cacuaco, Belas and Quissama.

It is an organization that “has done a lot in favor of respectable social causes”, highlighted João Lourenço.

The President highlighted the symbolism of the award for “eternalizing the memory of Ambassador José Aparecido de Oliveira”, whose example he highlighted.

“This award reinforces our responsibility towards the organization, especially with regard to the need to continue working to guarantee peace, security, development and respect for human rights in the world” he added.

José Aparecido de Oliveira, former ambassador of Brazil in Lisbon, is linked to the creation of the CPLP, through the commitment he dedicated to the project in the 1990s.

The CPLP, created in 1996, at the Lisbon summit, and which includes Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste, held this Sunday the XIV conference of chiefs of State and Government, in São Tomé and Príncipe, under the motto "Youth and Sustainability".
