UNITA leader considers SADC parliament necessary for effective integration

The UNITA leader defended the need for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to institutionalize a regional parliament for effective integration.

:

Adalberto Costa Júnior, one of the guests at the transfer ceremony of the SADC rotating presidency to Angola, considered that the country has "a great responsibility", and it is important to leave "a mark".

"And within this brand, above all, I would like to see in this space the realization of one of the greatest desires, challenges, of the Southern African community. SADC is the only region in Africa that does not have a functioning regional parliament and without a support juridical-legal of what are the acts of governance, the community of countries will hardly be functional as an effective integration", said Adalberto Costa Júnior, in statements to the press.

According to the leader of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), in SADC there is a parliamentary forum, but in other regions there is a parliament, and it is important that "the heads of state take this step of trust in the effective formatting of the community of development, integration, legality, through the sustainability of what parliament is functioning".

"It is one of the challenges that I would like to see fulfilled in this presidency", reinforced Costa Júnior, emphasizing that "this issue has been pending for many years", and some Presidents have taken "a bit of a step forward".

"See if they manage to convince others to follow suit, but just as laws provide sustainability to governance, this community of countries will never effectively be a real integration if this parliament does not leave, therefore, it is one of the fundamental steps, even more so when if you want to pursue development", he underlined.

The politician stressed that development is done with effective laws, recalling that the legal diplomas approved in the SADC parliamentary forum "are of non-mandatory reference", so "supervision does not work like that".

With regard to the issue of defense and security in the region, Adalberto Costa Júnior said that the situations in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo) and Cabo Delgado, Mozambique are worrying situations.

"I hope that, in fact, the continent ends up looking at itself and does not wait too long for interventions from outside (...) big problem", he emphasized.

"We have a problem that has just been shown to us, the problem of a war on the continent, but we saw African Presidents going first to Ukraine and Russia and not actually going to Sudan, where the conflict is very efficient and effective", added.

Adalberto Costa Júnior argued that it is "important to concentrate real efforts to resolve conflicts, because where there is instability, there is clearly no development", these being the two realities "that most concern the region".

"I think that Angola did what it should, as president of UNITA I must say that UNITA also did what it should, we voted in favor of Angola's peacekeeping force for the DRC and, therefore, I hope that peace there as soon as possible be an effective reality", he expressed.

The leader of the largest opposition party also mentioned the situation in the province of Cabinda, in the north of Angola, where he said there was also a problem "not much talked about", for which he wanted peace "to be something definitively attainable".

"As he said, defense and security are important, stability is important, but development is unavoidable, so that there is satisfaction and stability in the communities", he indicated.
