President highlights importance of opening embassy in Timor-Leste

The President of the Republic highlighted the importance of opening embassies in Timor-Leste, Australia and Indonesia, which is now starting, and appealed to the new ambassadors to help attract tourists and businessmen from this region of the globe.

:

João Lourenço's appeal was made this Friday at the inauguration of the new diplomatic representatives who will be in charge of opening three new embassies in a region of the world where Angola is "poorly represented", he stressed.

"The three countries to which they were nominated - Australia, Indonesia and East Timor - are important. Therefore, our presence is justified, so that we can strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation that, in some way, already exist with these same countries ", underlined the head of state.

João Lourenço highlighted the particular case of East Timor, the only CPLP country where Angola still did not have an embassy.

"It was an incomprehensible situation, which we are now correcting with the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in this country, member of our Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries", he said.

Addressing the diplomats, the chief executive said he hoped that "they manage to attract tourists from that region of the planet to Angola but, above all, businessmen who want to make direct private investment" in Angola.

José Andrade de Lemos, who was ambassador to the United Arab Emirates until 2019, is the new representative in Timor-Leste.

For Australia, António Manuel Luvualu de Carvalho, who was in Equatorial Guinea, was appointed, and for Indonesia will follow Florêncio Mariano da Conceição e Almeida, who ceased his duties in Brazil in March this year.
