In the announcement of the event, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Cármen Neto, referred that the fair of international scope, to take place in the bay of Luanda, in an area of seven thousand square meters, fits in the policies and strategies of the Angolan executive to the growth and development of the sector.

Cármen Neto also stressed that the main objective of the event is to promote and diversify the maritime economy, attract new investments, with a view to increasing the job offer, promote new products and services, as well as establish new partnerships and improve Angola's position in the context regional and international.

"This fair will not be merely expository, as it will feature a cycle of conferences, in which various actors in the blue economy will participate, from public and private entities, as well as associations, private investors, 'startups', that is, individuals who together they develop actions in favor of the blue economy and sustainable development", he stressed.

Speaking to the press, the Angolan official said that the area's contribution to the non-oil sector is 3.6 percent, a percentage "still far short" of what they intend to achieve.

"We hope by the end of the year to bring other more striking numbers. What we need is to reorganize some of the aspects that are putting obstacles so that it is not possible to have a higher ceiling", said the minister, pointing out the challenges linked to " good practices, understanding of the legislation, the literacy that the different actors have about the activities they carry out".

Among the challenges of good practice, continued the holder of the Fisheries and Marine Resources portfolio, are trawling, seine fishing, crab and coastal prawn.

With regard to inspection, Cármen Neto said that despite the lack of resources and means, "it is being done from a structural point of view", that is, it is being carried out "either digitally, following the vessels, or via incursions into the sea and bringing the offenders".

"In fact, we have apprehended several offenders, I bring the message of the reduction of transgressions, we want it to go down, because we cannot control that it has a zero aspect", he underlined, advancing that the sector registers at this time a capture of around 330 thousand tons.
