Project by Fábio Krayze wins Casa artistic creation program

The projects “Musseque”, by the Angolan Fábio Krayze, and “Volta para tua terra”, by the Brazilian Keli Freitas, and , were chosen for the 2nd edition of the Portuguese residency and artistic creation program Casa, announced the promoters.

:

Promoted by Espaço do Tempo, in Montemor-o-Novo (Évora district), by Cineteatro Louletano, in Loulé (Faro), by the Vila Flor Cultural Center, in Guimarães (Braga), the initiative attributes to each of the winners support in a total amount of 25 thousand euros.

Support, according to the promoters, includes holding a residency, lasting about seven weeks, at Espaço do Tempo and another, lasting about two weeks, at the absolute premiere location of the work.

"Projecto Casa seeks to be a stimulus to creation in the areas of dance, theater and disciplinary crossings and a contribution to the sustainable development of the path of artists in the referred areas", they pointed out.

"Volta para a tua terra", by Keli Freitas, a Brazilian artist who has lived in Portugal for six years, won in the area of theater and disciplinary crossings.

This artistic project stood out for its "artistic, cultural, social and political relevance" and for the "importance of the themes dealt with and the proposed poetic approach".

Keli Freitas, "from the search for her Portuguese great-grandmother, challenges the ideas of immigration and belonging", thinks "in a compromised way the notions of citizen and foreigner" and confronts "structures that support any xenophobia".

The project is also "a research work on the endless beginnings of stories, but also on the erasure of female biographies, whether in the family micro-universe or in the macro of Universal History".

"Volta para a tua terra" will premiere on June 14, 2024, at the Vila Flor Cultural Centre, within the scope of the Gil Vicente Festivals.

"Musseque", by Fábio Krayze, born in Angola and living in Portugal for over 20 years, won in the field of dance and disciplinary intersections.

The Angolan artist's project stood out "by the discursive poignancy, the singularity of the approach and the importance of contributing to the promotion, visibility and sustainability of aesthetic forms and practices historically removed from the main artistic circuits".

In Musseque, which premieres on November 15, 2024, at Cineteatro Louletano, "the outskirts of Luanda that are home will be revisited, the speeches that are the revolution and the bodies that are the resistance, in an amazing pace of those who continue away from the war".

The jury for this edition was made up of Paulo Silva, Pedro Barreiro and Rui Torrinha, artistic directors of the three organizing structures.

As for the winners of the 1st edition, the cultural association Silent Party presented "A room just for you", last June, at the Vila Flor Cultural Centre, while "Campo - Força – Chama", by Josefa Pereira, will debut, on the 22nd of September, at the Cineteatro Louletano.
