"All this is fallacy, UNITA is struggling with difficulties in this (electoral) process, it appealed to citizens, pointed out bank accounts that were made public, all the contributions we are receiving from citizens are falling into this account", said the national secretary for Electoral Affairs of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola, Faustino Mumbika.
Asked if the citizens Welwitchia "Tchizé" dos Santos and Isabel dos Santos, daughters of the former president, did not make any contribution to UNITA, the politician replied: "If they did, the accounts recorded".
"If they registered, obviously, the MPLA president would not be saying, he would even cite values, they know that not only does UNITA have all its management architected in the banking system, but also UNITA has frozen accounts until today", he said.
Mumbika said that the law obliges all competitors to 'compliance' (transparency) and, at this moment, he explained, "if UNITA had received any funding, the MPLA president would not be talking, but the courts would be acting".
The President of the Republic and candidate of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, João Lourenço, reaffirmed, on Wednesday, the fight against corruption and accused UNITA of making pacts with corrupt people.
"Angola is effectively fighting corruption", said João Lourenço at a rally in Malanje, considering it "ironic" that some of its competitors say that the MPLA "is not doing anything".
"What is ironic is that those who defend this point of view have made a pact with the corrupt, they are eating from the plate of the corrupt, they are being financed by the money coming out of Angola through the door of corruption, these are its real financiers", underlined Lourenço, insinuating that the candidacy of the president of UNITA will be financed by people targeted by Angolan justice.
"We don't have to be surprised in terms of alliances, this opposition has had worse alliances than these, those who allied with 'apartheid' are no wonder those who emptied the state coffers and took these resources to other economies, who allies with 'apartheid' [South Africa supported UNITA in the civil war, while the MPLA was supported by the Soviet Union and Cuba] easily allies itself with the corrupt who fled Angola accused of practicing corruption", he pointed out.
The Government has often been accused of carrying out selective justice targeting relatives or close associates of former President José Eduardo dos Santos, who died on 8 July in Barcelona and over whom a legal dispute continues over the obsequies between some of his children and the Angolan regime.
Tchizé dos Santos, one of the daughters, a militant and former MPLA deputy, has publicly shown her support for the candidacy of Adalberto da Costa Júnior, but none of the other sons has commented on party campaigns, in particular Isabel dos Santos, who lives outside Angola for several years and is targeted in several civil and criminal cases.
Faustino Mumbika, who was speaking at a press conference about the electoral process, downplayed Lourenço's accusations: "Now, if we look at reality, we consider that this is that hide-and-seek game where the tail is out."
"We all know that the problem of corruption in the country is not a problem of 'marimbondo 1' [allusion to wasps associated with corrupt people in Angola] or 'marimbondo 2', it is a systemic problem", he stressed.
For the UNITA politician, the debate on corruption in Angola "has been falsified from the first moment", stating that what is being "experienced is not a problem of corruption, it is a problem of embezzlement, it is pure theft and is systematic".
"This what is called today 'marimbondos' or 'crab' is a product that the MPLA system adopted and today we are witnessing the multimillion-dollar campaign that the MPLA candidate is carrying out, which is not possible to do with the resources that the CNE [National Electoral Commission] attributed to political parties", he pointed out.
"It is clear that it is with State resources and some of them publicly, it uses State planes, public transport and others that the MPLA is using for this campaign", he accused.
For Mumbika, the accusation "is just a way to divert attention, because the MPLA president is aware that in fact the country has been the victim of a scandalous robbery engineered by a system of which he is a part."
The general elections, the fifth ballot in the country's political history, are scheduled for 24 August and eight political groups compete, in an election campaign since 24 July.
