Agriculture in the country with growth of five percent per year

António Assis, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, said that in the last three years, agriculture in the country had grown by five percent per year. The holder of the Agriculture and Fisheries portfolio considered that this development is still not satisfactory, but admitted “it is a good indication”.

This growth is the result of Government investments in projects aimed at the evolution of the agricultural sector, and the Government intends, over the next five years, to maintain its commitment to this area by shifting resources to expand and diversify national production, said the government official, quoted by Angop.

Speaking at the opening of this year's edition of Expo-Huíla, António Assis stressed that "the plans are outlined" and that they will continue the work started: "The guidelines and plans are outlined and we will continue the work we started to increase the growth rate of national agricultural production, because we have everything to make that happen", he said.

He also mentioned that producers are increasingly aware of producing internally and that national fairs express this, writes Angop.

Nuno Mahapi, governor of Huíla, also quoted by Angop, considered that the fair represents an incentive for businessmen and the province to reach other levels.

He also said that Angola has "everything to grow" with the private sector playing a "preponderant role" in this development. "It is a positive feeling. The country has everything to grow and the private sector plays a leading role in Angola's development, hence we have to embrace all these ideas and initiatives", he said, quoted by Angop.

In turn, Paulo Gaspar, president of the Agro-Livestock Commercial and Industrial Association of Huíla (AAPCIL), admitted that there are 'airs' of change in the business environment, which has been improving as a result of government programs to support country's production, however, said that more still needed to be done.

Also quoted by Angop, he conjectured improvements for future years, having admitted the Government's effort to try to improve and enable a better business environment.

The 29th edition of Expo-Huíla started this Wednesday and will continue until Sunday, August 14, in Lubango.
