ANPG and TotalEnergies signed contracts for onshore exploration of eight blocks

The national oil concessionaire, TotalEnergies and the associates of Block 48 signed this Thursday, in Luanda, contracts for the exploration of three blocks in the Congo onshore Basin and another five in the Kwanza onshore Basin.

At the ceremony, the president of the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), Paulino Jerónimo, stressed that the signing of the contracts is the culmination of a long negotiation process.

Paulino Jerónimo "strongly" congratulated the investors, partners for the concession of the awarded blocks.

"I would like to reaffirm here that it is the national concessionaire's commitment to increase the geological knowledge of all sedimentary basins in Angola, through the implementation of the hydrocarbon exploration strategy approved by the Presidential Decree and to promote and bid for these areas, thus increasing, in case of success, oil production", he underlined.

The concessionaire's official announced at the time that, in 2023, more blocks in the onshore area of ​​the Baixo Congo and Baixo Kwanza Basins are scheduled to be auctioned, and that they are also still available, in compliance with the Presidential Decree on the Permanent Offer of Oil Concessions several blocks.

They are blocks 9 of the Kwanza onshore zone, blocks 7, 8 and 9 of the Kwanza Basin offshore, blocks 32/21, 33/21, 34/21 of the Congo Basin offshore, block 10 of the Benguela Basin and blocks 11, 12, 13, 41, 42 and 43 in the Namibe Basin, as well as blocks 6/15 and 20/15 in the offshore Kwanza Basin, the latter two with discoveries.

In turn, the Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Barroso, considered the signing of these contracts "an act of great importance", stressing that onshore is not just for Angola "the extent of exploration that is being carried out today, and successfully in the Angolan offshore".

"It also represents great importance, because for many years some institutions have always had some doubts about the potential of the Angolan onshore and the signing of these contracts for the land areas of the Baixo Congo Basin and the Kwanza finally represents a milestone for this legislature. , but, I believe, especially for our national concessionaire", he stressed.

The concessionaire has as partners the French company TotalEnergies and the associates of Block 48 (Qatar Petroleum and Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção) for the exploration of the CON1 blocks in the Congo Basin; CON5; CON6 and in the Kwanza Basin of the KON5 blocks; KON6; KON8; KON17; KON20

The Government is currently implementing the general strategy for the allocation of oil concessions 2019-2025, in light of Presidential Decree No.

In 2021, the ANPG held the tender for nine concessions in the onshore area of ​​the Kwanza and Baixo Congo Basins, with a capacity of around 500 million barrels of oil for exploration, of which eight sharing and production contracts were signed this year. Wednesday.
