Country holds lottery to encourage population to get vaccinated against covid-19

The Government approved this Tuesday a national lottery to encourage the population to join the vaccination against covid-19, which is falling short of the expectations of the country's health authorities.

The information was provided by the Minister of State and head of the President's Security House, Francisco Furtado, at the end of the eighth meeting of the Council of Ministers, held under the guidance of the President, João Lourenço.

Francisco Furtado said that it was found that, despite the positive evolution of the effectiveness of the measures, coupled with the fact that the country is with quite satisfactory levels of reception of vaccines of the different variants that are being used, "the adhesion of the population is not being positive".

The Angolan leader pointed out that the new high performance posts installed in the seven municipalities of Luanda province should each, on average, vaccinate about 3,000 people, having in the whole country conditions for an average of 90,000 people vaccinated per day.

"However, this affluence is being quite low, it was recommended in this session that the Multisectoral Commission for the Prevention and Combat of Covid-19, the provincial commissions and the media, particularly, play a mobilizing role in order to sensitize people to get vaccinated," he stressed.

"The vaccine will contribute to reducing the chances of contagion and the effects that the disease has caused, if so we will in fact have conditions to better maintain stability, not being worried about the sanitary fence or other measures," he stressed.

As a way to stimulate the population to adhere to the vaccination, continued Francisco Furtado, the Council of Ministers approved a proposal to hold a raffle, on December 31 of this year, "to randomly award a citizen who has taken the doses of any of the vaccine variants [existing in the country].

According to the Minister of State and head of the President's House of Security, it will be a national drawing, to be done at the level of all the provinces, "as a way to stimulate citizens."

"Because it is not mandatory to demand people to be vaccinated, but it should be an act of conscience from each one, as a stimulus we established this award that will be made on December 31st, 2021", he emphasized.

Angola has already administered, since March 2nd of this year, 2.021.999 vaccine doses, having 901.861 people with complete vaccination, announced, on Monday, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

"We are moving forward, but there is still a long way to go and there is a need to appeal once again to the entire population to adhere to the vaccination posts," said Franco Mufinda during the presentation of the country's epidemiological situation on covid-19.
