According to a bulletin from the African Union Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) issued this morning, southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 3,508,279 infected and 97,244 deaths associated with covid-19.
In this region, South Africa alone, the country most affected by the pandemic on the African continent, accounts for 2,624,254 infected and 77,993 deaths.
North Africa, which succeeds Southern Africa in the covid-19 numbers, reached 2,192,152 cases and 59,429 deaths associated with the disease.
East Africa has 863,742 infections and 18,020 deaths and the West Africa region has 568,692 infections and 7637 deaths.
Central Africa is the region of the continent with the fewest cases of infection and deaths: 212,773 cases and 3175 deaths.
Tunisia, the second African country with the most fatalities after South Africa, registers 22,025 deaths and 626,750 cases, followed by Egypt, with 16,630 deaths and 285,577 infected, and Morocco, which accounts for the second highest number of infections in the entire continent, 772,394 cases, but fewer deaths than the two previous countries, with 11,242 deaths associated with the disease.
In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique registers 1748 deaths and 140,071 cases of infection accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic, and Angola accounts for 1118 deaths associated with the disease and 44,964 accumulated infections.
Cape Verde registers 300 deaths associated with the disease and 34,445 infections, Equatorial Guinea maintains 123 deaths and 8972 cases, Guinea-Bissau has 94 deaths and 5206 infected and São Tomé and Príncipe 37 deaths and 2492 infections.
Covid-19: Africa with over 1742 deaths and 31,006 cases in 24 hours
Africa recorded an additional 31,006 cases of infection with the new coronavirus, bringing the total to 7,345,638, which resulted in an additional 1742 deaths, to 185,505 deaths, according to the latest official data.
