Government analyzes distance learning regulation in primary and secondary education

The Commission for Social Policy of the Council of Ministers evaluated, this Monday, the presidential decree that approves the regulation of distance and semi-presential education in primary and secondary.

The committee considered that this regulation - which is based on establishing rules that ensure the continuous transmission of knowledge to students through the use of new technologies - is timely, since covid-19 forced the country's educational institutions to suspend face-to-face classes.

"Not being possible, for the moment, the return to the classes in person, it is urgent the need to approve a legal instrument that allows the continuation of the teaching-educational process in the modalities of distance and semi-presential teaching, given the relevance that teaching has in the cognitive and psycho-emotional development of children and young people," says the communiqué released at the end of the meeting, cited by the Journal of Angola.

Luísa Grilo, Minister of Education, admitted that this new model "is an opportunity that, besides allowing classes to take place independently of the physical space where it is located, it also gives the opportunity to broaden access to schooling at the primary and secondary levels.

Cited by Angop, the holder of the education portfolio revealed that during the commission's meeting her guardianship presented a document with the reference schools in the country, which will allow to improve the organization of public education institutions.

"The covid-19 pandemic has shown us the difficulties in the organization of our schools. We want to improve not only the quality of teachers, but also the infrastructure conditions and the participation of the community, because we cannot design a school without having the connection with the community that is part of it," he said.

As for the end of the monodocency in the 5th and 6th grades, the minister made it known that the Government is still studying the application of this hypothesis, but stressed that this will not be applied in the next school year. Luisa Grilo explained that before applying the measure it is necessary to make a restructuring in schools.

The end of monodocence will imply the hiring of more teachers, since a single teacher will stop teaching four to five subjects, she said.
