Government attentive to the call to return to school but aware of the difficulties

The Executive expressed "sensitivity" to the guidelines of the United Nations Secretary-General on the reopening of schools in Africa, but he is also aware of the deficient biosafety conditions in the country's educational institutions.

The position was expressed by the Minister of State for the Social Area, Carolina Cerqueira, at the end of a visit to the Pediatric Hospital David Bernardino in Luanda.

Carolina Cerqueira stressed that the Government is listening to the social partners on the matter of returning to school, suspended in Angola since last March due to the covid-19 pandemic, which has already caused 93 deaths in the country in a total of 2044 cases.

According to Carolina Cerqueira, a survey is being carried out on the advantages and disadvantages of the reopening of schools, at a stage marked by the increase in cases of infection with the new coronavirus.

"We are attentive to the calls at the international level of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, of the need to put children in school to preserve their future and not to stunt children's training", he said.

The official stressed that the Government is aware that the child at home is more subject to violence, rape, abuse.

"But we are also aware that children are more vulnerable to being contaminated, because they are children, because they often live in peripheral areas without water, without biosafety, without adults, who go out into the informal sector, and children are The schools still do not have the best conditions ", admitted Carolina Cerqueira.

The minister guaranteed that the consultation work with schools, parents, social partners and churches will soon be known.

"And certainly the most conscious measures are going to be taken and they will not defraud the expectations of families and the safety of children. We are going slowly and well," he said.
