Covid-19 cancels celebrations celebrating the 45th anniversary of independence

The information was provided by the Interministerial Commission for the Organization of Commemorative Actions alluding to the 45th Anniversary of National Independence. The central act of the independence celebrations, scheduled for the Memorial Memorial António Agostinho Neto, in Luanda, was canceled taking into account the pandemic of covid-19.

According to a note from the commission, the measure is justified by the epidemiological situation in the country, motivated by the pandemic covid-19. Health authorities are invoked who warn that actions should be taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

According to Angop, the civic and military parades initially programmed as the main attractions of the central act of the celebrations of the 45th anniversary of National Independence, which is celebrated on 11 November, were also canceled.

Thus, the commission scheduled acts of a symbolic nature to commemorate the celebrations. These actions do not involve the massive participation of citizens and do not assert themselves as the focus of the spread of the pandemic.

In addition, the celebrations' communication campaign will also be restructured, adapting it to the current context.

Provincial acts and celebrations of diplomatic and consular missions will also be reformulated, becoming equally symbolic.

"The Interministerial Commission will continue to work to ensure that the commemorative actions of the 45th Anniversary of National Independence take place, as a landmark of transcendental importance for the collective memory of the Angolan people, in a climate of harmony", concludes the note.
