Bodiva says PR's daughter nomination is a "homecoming"

The Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange (Bodiva) said this Thursday that the appointment as executive administrator of Cristina Lourenço, daughter of the President, João Lourenço, is "a return home" of that former employee of the institution.

:

In a press release distributed this Thursday, to which the Lusa agency had access, Bodiva stressed that the appointment last March of Cristina Lourenço arose from the need to complete the composition of the Board of Directors, following the resignation of one of its directors.

The document stresses that "the journey and commitment as a Bodiva employee, between 2014 and 2016, and the management capacity demonstrated in the process of creating and implementing a structure unit of the Ministry of Finance, were the basis for the decision of this committee to invite a former board member to take up the function".

"A return home", the note highlights, recalling that, with the exception of its president, the executive committee in office since November 2019 is composed exclusively of Bodiva staff, "of proven academic and above all professional competence, who since its inception have dedicated and dedicate their knowledge, skills and zeal to the consolidation of the Angolan capital market".

"Regarding legal procedures, it is important to mention that, as a public limited company, which is governed by the rules applicable to public limited companies, the members of corporate bodies, including the Board of Directors, are elected by unanimous decision at the General Assembly", Bodiva stresses.

This note comes after recent news about political power in Angola, published by Jornal de Negócios, which has been criticized in various social circles in the country for what is classified as an "alleged act of nepotism".

Many associate the issue with acts previously carried out by former President José Eduardo dos Santos, who appointed children such as Isabel dos Santos and José Filomeno "Zenu" dos Santos to public office.

In dispatch no. 2260/20, of 5 May, the Ministry of Finance confirms the dismissal of Cristina Giovana Dias Lourenço, where she is a 2nd class senior technician, to head the Finance and Heritage and Communication and Exchange departments of the Angolan Stock Exchange.
