In the message addressed to the Lebanese president, João Lourenço expresses his “deep feeling of sadness”, stressing that he is following the events with concern, following the two violent explosions that shook the Lebanese capital causing more than a hundred deaths.

The Head of State deplored the loss of human life and the high material damage that resulted from the explosions and "expressed feelings of solidarity with the Lebanese nation and the victims, addressing condolences to the bereaved families".

Angola has a significant and prosperous Lebanese community essentially linked to trade.

Two successive strong explosions rocked Beirut on Tuesday, causing more than a hundred deaths and more than 4000 injuries, according to the latest assessment by the Red Cross.

Up to 300,000 people are said to have been homeless due to the explosions, according to Lebanese capital governor Marwan Abboud.

The violent explosions must have originated from explosive materials confiscated and stored for several years in the port of the Lebanese capital.

Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab revealed that about 2750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate was stored in the exploding Beirut port depot.
