According to a statement from the ministry, the National Institute of Fisheries and Marine Investigation (INIPM) was notified by the command of the Maritime Fiscal Police of the Island of Luanda about the occurrence of dead fish on Wednesday, at 07:30.
The INIPM technical team visited the site of the event and took samples of fish and water to try to identify the causes of the death, and it is estimated that the results will be known on the 12th of August.
The ministry calls on the population not to consume dead fish and not to trade or consume species caught in Luanda Bay, until the results are known.
It also stresses, in the statement, that considering the history, from May to September there is a high probability of micro-algae blooming "many of the species may be producing biotoxins, with an impact on the ecosystem and human health".
