Total looks for Angolan oil again after suspending activities because of the pandemic

The country's largest oil producer, Total, will continue to drill and develop new oil wells, even after its work has been suspended due to the crisis the country is facing, aggravated by the covid-19 pandemic.

To reinforce the work, the company will put into operation, during this month, a new deepwater drilling rig. This new rig, called Maersk Voyager, will be activated in Block 17, the block with the highest production rate in the country.

According to Angop, the activation of this new rig is seen as a breath of fresh air in the sector and raises the hopes of the workers in this field who have been laid off or have had their incomes cut due to the covid-19 pandemic.

According to a statement from the National Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG), cited by Angop, the rig was anchored for several months in the Bay of Luanda and will now be sent to Block 17 on August 27.

With the activation of Maersk Voyager the country will have two rigs in operation: in block 32 Total has activated the Transocean Skyros probe and in the coming weeks will activate Maersk Voyager in block 17. The oil company will also activate the West Gemini in block 17.

The return of the rigs will be done in stages: by November this year the country will have four active rigs operating in deep water. However, it is expected that this number will double in the first quarter of next year, which will create new jobs.
