According to the commander of the National Police in Kwanza Norte, Commissioner António Neto, eight AKM-type weapons, two PKMs, four rifles, five Russian-made shotguns and 26 homemade weapons were seized.

António Neto, who spoke in statements to the Angolan Public Television (TPA), said that in addition to poaching there is also concern about indiscriminate logging for charcoal production, as well as infrastructure costs.

"For example, Angola Telecom has always been having problems with fibre optics," he said.

In his turn, the person responsible for the environment area in Kwanza Norte, Ilson António, pointed out that efforts are being made to create a local environmental crime brigade, especially with regard to the monitoring of environmental damage in the province in recent times.

In Kwanza Norte, several species are slaughtered daily by supposed poachers, who use large arms for the slaughter of large animals.

To analyse the situation, a joint meeting was held between the government of the province and defence and security bodies, and the provincial governor, Adriano de Carvalho, expressed concern about these crimes, as well as the burning for agricultural and poaching purposes.
