Brazilian independent film festival will honour Angola in its seventh edition

The Portuguese language festival "O Cubo de Cinema Independente" decided this year to pay tribute to Angola. The seventh edition of the festival will have a special session to mark 45 years of National Independence.

"It is with great joy and enthusiasm that we will have this unique moment in the festival, to associate ourselves with the main festival of angolans and celebrate this date this year together," said Fabiano Cafure, executive director and curator of the event.

Although the tribute is still being negotiated, the responsible, cited by Jornal de Angola, considered that the festival is an opportunity for the world to know angolan films and also the culture of Angola. The festival is "a great opportunity for Angolan institutions to achieve greater visibility of their brands abroad," he admitted.

Eduardo Bodstein, the festival's actor and cultural producer, made it known that the partnership between Angola and the event was expressed last month in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment.

The curatorship in Angola will be guaranteed by the Angolan Association of Film and Audiovisual Professionals.

"The Independent Film Cube" will take place this year between 12 and 15 November.

The festival will premiere this year in online format, due to covid-19. In addition, this year's awards will also have a novelty: for the first time they will be monetary.

Entries for the festival run until 30 September. The director estimates that the festival will have more than 80 films registered, since this event extends to all member states of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

The festival programme will be announced in October. You can learn more about the event here.
