Benfica proposes to baptize streets with names of Carlos Burity, Waldemar Bastos and Bernardo Jorge "Bangão"

The Benfica urban district administration proposed baptizing the streets of the area with the names of musicians Waldemar Bastos, Carlos Burity and Bernardo Jorge "Bangão".

Hélio Aragão, Benfica's district administrator, revealed that the purpose of naming the artists is to honor them. He also admitted that the musicians have done a lot for the growth and appreciation of Angolan culture both nationally and abroad.

According to sources from the municipal administration, cited by Angop, the artists are part of a list of names composed of various celebrities linked to national culture.

The list was drawn up as part of the toponymy programme that the Talatona municipality is developing.

Musician Carlos Burity died in the early hours of Wednesday, in Luanda, at the age of 67. Waldemar Bastos died in Lisbon, victim of cancer, on Monday morning, at the age of 66.

Bernardo Jorge "Bangão" died at 53, in May 2015, in South Africa.
