Angolan Embassy in Portugal laments the death of Waldemar Bastos

The Angolan Ambassador to Portugal, Carlos Alberto Fonseca, issued this Monday a message of condolence to the family of Waldemar Bastos, mourning the death of the Angolan musician and performer, who died in the early hours of Monday at the age of 66.

"We learnt, with great sadness and feeling of regret, of the physical passage of Mr. Waldemar Bastos, an illustrious Angolan musician, composer and interpreter, which took place today (Monday) in Lisbon", says the Angolan Ambassador in Portugal, in a note to which Lusa had access.

Carlos Alberto Fonseca pointed out that "Angolan arts and culture are in mourning" for the disappearance of "one of its most notable representatives of international projection", underlining that the legacy of Waldemar Bastos "will remain prominent in the national musical collection.

In the message, the Angolan ambassador presented to Waldemar Bastos's family, on his own behalf, "the diplomats and other embassy staff," the "deepest condolences and feeling of solidarity.

The Angolan singer Waldemar Bastos died in the early hours of this Monday in Lisbon, victim of illness, aged 66.

Waldemar dos Santos Alonso de Almeida Bastos was born in the province of Zaire, on 4 January 1954.

"Renascence", "Pitanga Madura", "Estamos Juntos" and "Clássicos da Minha Alma" are some of the singer's records, which in 2018 was awarded the National Culture and Arts Prize, the most important distinction of the Angolan State in the sector.
