According to a statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which VerAngola had access to, the team won by two sets to zero.
"The national women's beach volleyball team won the SADC Zone 5 champion title this Saturday, after defeating Zimbabwe in the final by 2 sets to 0 — with partial scores of 21–19 and 21–14," the statement reads.
Before reaching the final of these games that are taking place in Namibia until July 13, the country met its counterpart Mozambique in the semifinals.
"Angola faced and defeated Mozambique in the semifinals, in one of the most exciting matches of the competition. The game ended with an Angolan victory by 2 sets to 1, with the following results: 21–17; 13–21 and 15–12," says the ministry.
According to the Ministry, this achievement represents much more than just lifting a trophy; it also raises the country's profile.
"With talent, strategy and determination, our athletes lifted more than one trophy — they raised the profile of Angola in the region and the continent," the statement reads.
"At a time when sport is a symbol of unity, overcoming and national identity, this victory reinforces Angola's status as a sports powerhouse in Zone 5 and sends a clear message to future generations: it is worth believing, working and fighting," the Ministry adds.
In addition to winning 'gold on the sand', it is also worth highlighting the fact that the national karate team won three gold medals and one silver at the Region 5 Youth Games.
According to the Ministry, Laury Romano, Melba Francisco and Esperança Mavanda won gold, while Aleni César won silver.
"With only six athletes competing, Angola demonstrated a technical and emotional level that is on par with the region's great sports nations," the ministry said in another statement to which VerAngola had access.
"More than individual achievements, these medals represent the silent but steady progress of the sport in the country. They are the reflection of collective work — by coaches, federations, families and a country that believes in youth as a driving force for change," the ministry also said, adding: "This achievement not only honors the present, but paves the way for the future of Angolan Karate. Because when we step onto the podium, we all do so — as a nation."
In this edition, the country, which is participating with a delegation of more than 200 members, including athletes, coaches and directors, seeks to improve or maintain the second place it achieved in the last edition. In the games that took place in 2022 in Malawi, the national team came second in the overall medal standings, behind South Africa.
It is also worth mentioning that, on the 12th of this month, the Namibian capital, Windhoek, will host the Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Sports of AUSC Region 5, at which the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, will be present, writes Angop.
