The draw in the third round of Group B, after a win against Spain (26-21) and a defeat against the Netherlands (34-31), keeps the national team on course for the quarter-finals, within reach of the top four teams in each of the two groups.

Angola started the match poorly, going five minutes without scoring, and suffered a 3-0 run that allowed the Hungarian team to manage (4-1, 5-2 and 8-5) and increase the lead to five, at 11-6, taking advantage of the technical errors and losses of the African team.

With 15 minutes to play until the end of the first half, the Angolan team reacted and overcame the five-goal deficit, at 12-7, to reach a draw at 13-13, with a run of 6-1.

Hungary responded with a 2-0 run, regaining the lead by two goals at 15-13, but the Angolan team responded with three consecutive goals that put them ahead for the first time in the game at the end of the first half (16-15).

Angola increased the difference to two goals after the break (17-15) and took control of the match with an average advantage of two goals until 26-24, when Hungary took the lead at 27-26, with a 3-0 run.

Spanish coach Carlos Vivier called a timeout to adjust his team and, upon resuming the game, the Angolan team regained the lead by one goal at 28-27, with a 2-0 run, which they held until 30-29.

In the final minutes of the match, Hungary took the lead again by one goal, at 31-30, and after Angola equalised at 31-31. Goalkeeper Marta Alberto, who had an accuracy of 29 percent, and Natália Santos held on to the draw.

Albertina Kassoma, with nine goals, and Vilma Nenganga, with five, were the national team's top scorers, while in Hungary that role belonged to Katrin Klujber, with nine.

With one game still to play in the third round of Group B, between France and Brazil, respectively first and fifth placed, Angola remains in third place, with three points, tied on points with Hungary, fourth. Spain is last, still without points.

The Olympic handball tournament is contested by 12 teams, divided into two groups of six, with the top four qualifying for the quarter-finals (to be played on 6 August). The semi-finals are scheduled for the 8th and the final for two days later (10th August).
