The Ministry of Finance asked the former president of the Court of Auditors (TdC), Exalgina Gambôa, who resigned from her position on suspicion of corruption, to return the function house and the Jaguar car that had been assigned to her.

In a document to which Lusa had access, dated February 6, 2024, the director of the Finance Minister's office, Polonga Fernandes, says that Exalgina Gambôa had been provided with a function house in the Privilege Residence Condominium, as well as a vehicle of the Jaguar brand for personal use, within the scope of the privileges reserved for the status of presiding judge of the Court of Auditors.

The case was reported first-hand by the website Maka Angola, run by activist and journalist Rafael Marques de Morais, who last year called for an investigation into the exorbitant expenses of the former TdC president.

Exalgina Gambôa ended up being indicted in a case on suspicion of corruption and left under pressure from the President of the Republic.

In view of the resignation of the position, and considering that the termination did not result from retirement, "it becomes imperative to proceed with the restitution of movable and immovable assets", highlights the letter from the Ministry of Finance, referring to the resolution of the Superior Council of the Judiciary Judiciary, which rejected the request for early retirement.

The document from the Ministry of Finance ends by mentioning that it is waiting for Exalgina Gambôa to indicate "the dates and places that are most comfortable" for the return of the goods.

The former president of the Court of Auditors submitted her resignation from her position in March last year, shortly after being indicted on suspicion of corruption.

Exalgina Gambôa and her son Hailé da Cruz were charged with crimes of extortion and corruption, an investigation process was opened "in reaction to public information and complaints".

The president, João Lourenço, had already announced that he had invited Exalgina Gambôa to resign from her position on February 21 due to the various "occurrences" involving her.

On the occasion, Rafael Marques de Morais revealed that the judge's expenses, covered by the public treasury through the Court of Auditors' Private Vault, would total around 4 million dollars and were aimed at equipping the residence, with furniture purchased from two companies.
