The announcement was made by the bank's Chairman of the Board of Directors (CEO), Benedict OKey Oramah, this Monday, at the end of a meeting with the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
The meeting – held between João Lourenço and a delegation from the bank, led by its CEO – served to discuss aspects related to Afreximbank's operations in the country.
"At the end of the meeting, the banker told journalists that he had discussed with the Head of State aspects related to Afreximbank's operations in Angola, taking the opportunity to announce that the institution will increase its credit portfolio by 2.3 billion dollars to finance the construction project of the Lobito refinery, the Cabinda refinery and the Soyo fertilizer factory", reads a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access.
On the occasion, the bank's director "commented favorably on Angola's development process in recent years, particularly the construction of vital infrastructures that have largely served the population".
In statements to the press, quoted by Angop, he said it was "gratifying" for the bank to have helped Angola achieve "its ambition in terms of growth".
"For us, this opportunity to have helped the Angolan government achieve its ambition in terms of growth is gratifying", he said.
Speaking specifically about the fertilizer manufacturing unit, he considered that it will contribute to the country achieving self-sufficiency in the production of food and also fertilizers.
"We hope that with the size of the project, when it is completed, Angola will be able to export fertilizers to other African countries and, in this way, we will be able to guarantee food self-sufficiency at the African level", he said.
