Politics Official visit of the Portuguese Prime Minister

Luís Montenegro visits Powergol, Refriango and also stops by FILDA on the second day of his visit to Angola

The Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, continues his three-day official visit to the country, which is focused on the economic aspect, after announcing on Tuesday the extension of the credit line to Angola by 500 million euros.

The first day of the visit, on Tuesday, had as its highlight the meeting with President João Lourenço, and the signing of 12 legal instruments, including one that ensures that the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) will begin working in Angola to promote the professional training of Angolan staff.

The most relevant is the reinforcement of the Portugal-Angola credit line by a further 500 million euros - going from the current 2000 million, not yet exhausted, to 2500 million - with the aim of supporting "Portuguese companies and the Government of Angola to do investments in infrastructure and also in other areas that could favor the diversification of the Angolan economy".

This Wednesday, Montenegro will start its agenda at 9:30 am visiting two companies: Powergol, which originates in Braga and operates in the area of ​​energy and electrical equipment (with a focus on staff training), and Refriango, the largest industrial investment in Angola in the area of ​​drinks and soft drinks.

In the afternoon, Luís Montenegro visits the Portuguese pavilion and several stands of Portuguese and Angolan companies at the Luanda International Fair (FILDA), giving the closing speech at the Angola-Portugal Business Forum, dedicated to the theme of the agri-food sector.

The Portuguese Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, and the Minister for Economic Coordination, José Lima Massano, will also speak at this forum.
On the first day, Montenegro promised to appeal to the more than 1,250 companies currently operating in Angolan territory to continue "taking risks" in the country.

According to INE, in 2023, Portugal's Direct Investment stock in Angola amounted to 1.6 billion euros, representing 2.5 percent of total Portuguese direct investment abroad.

On this trip to Angola, the Portuguese Prime Minister is accompanied by the Ministers of State and Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, and Economy, Pedro Reis, as well as the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nuno Sampaio, (representing the minister supervisor, Paulo Rangel, who is in Rio de Janeiro at the G20 meeting) and the Secretary of State for Treasury and Finance, João Silva Lopes.
Luís Montenegro's visit to Angola ends on Thursday night.
