Luís Montenegro was speaking at the Presidential Palace, after a private meeting with the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and before the meeting of extended delegations from the two countries.
"I want to announce to you what I communicated to President João Lourenço: the credit line that currently amounts to two billion euros will be reinforced by another 500 million euros," he said.
The prime minister stated that, although this line is not yet exhausted, this increase "is a sign of confidence in the future of Angola".
"It will help Portuguese companies and the Government of Angola to make investments in infrastructure and also in other areas that can favor the diversification of the Angolan economy and the creation of conditions for the country's development," he said.
Luís Montenegro assumed the objective of the XXIV Constitutional Government of Portugal to continue what was done in the past in bilateral relations with Angola, but not only that.
"Our objective is really to create a new impulse, a new great impulse in the relationship between the two countries and in economic relations in particular," he said.
The prime minister emphasized that Portugal is a partner of Angola "at all times", as happens in the opposite direction, and thanked this country for its support during the "troika" period, at the time when he was parliamentary leader of the PSD.
"I myself do not forget, due to the political responsibilities I had in the past, the way in which the Angolan Government, Angolan companies, Angolan institutions stood by Portugal's side at a time of greatest financial distress in which our economy was highly conditioned", he said.
Therefore, he stressed, "it is with the same spirit of solidarity that the Portuguese also seek to help Angola's growth, the promotion of its economic activity and the transformation of this activity into more jobs, in better jobs and creating conditions for greater well-being among Angolans".
"An example of this are the more than 1250 companies that currently operate in Angolan territory, producing for the domestic market and many of them, fortunately, also for the external market, for countries neighboring Angola, which are today also destinations for products that correspond to Angolan exports, but which are the basis of the production of Portuguese companies", he said, on the eve of visiting the Luanda International Fair (FILDA).
In a more general context, Montenegro highlighted the significance of this visit taking place "after just three months of office", referring to Angola as "a brotherly country".
"From education to justice, from culture and the preservation and promotion of the Portuguese language to economic relations, there have been many areas in which we have strengthened our relationship for the sake of the prosperity of our countries and the well-being of our peoples", he highlighted.
