João Lourenço was speaking, after meeting with the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, who arrived in Angola this Tuesday for a three-day official visit, in a solemn session in the Council of Ministers room of the Presidential Palace, in Luanda.

The head of the executive said that eight cooperation instruments will be signed, which will form the basis on which new initiatives and actions aimed at enlargement and exchange between the two countries will be developed, with the hope of obtaining "tangible results".

The head of state welcomed Montenegro's official visit to Angola after the meeting they held in Lisbon three months ago, declaring that this "will be another opportunity" to carry out a new analysis of bilateral relations between the two countries.

João Lourenço pointed out that this short period of time reflects "the mutual interest" that is the basis of cooperation between the two countries, which covers practically all sectors of national life.

"We will certainly have the opportunity to align our visions and points of view to boost cooperation in sectors that, although vital, have not yet acquired the desired speed and sufficiently acceptable degree of implementation, so that we can make an even more satisfactory assessment of bilateral cooperation", he highlighted.

The President said that the two countries "have carried out a wide range of cooperative relations in many areas, but there is room for others", especially at the level of youth in which Angola has established priorities "which it intends to meet and resolve with the support of Portugal".

Among these, he pointed to professional technical training in areas that are fundamental to the functioning of the Angolan economy, with it being "essential" that Angola has a high number of "young staff" to satisfy demand.

João Lourenço highlighted that Angola and Portugal relations involve an affectionate and fraternal side, which is why they must have on a bilateral level "more open and fluid channels that facilitate exchange between nations".

He also spoke about the current complex situation at a global level, showing concern about the war in Ukraine and conflict in the Middle East, a "dark picture of these critical times in which the law of the strongest prevails".

"We must work and contribute to ending the war in Ukraine and finding ways to build lasting peace in Europe", appealed João Lourenço, also criticizing the "disproportionate and inhumane action" against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza strip, after the attack on Israeli citizens in October last year.

"We cannot be passive accomplices to such atrocities", which deserve "condemnation and repulsion from the international community", he concluded, relaunching that "history is full of good examples of countries that were once enemies, now friends and even strategic partners".

This would be, he continued, "another success story of international diplomacy that would contribute to strengthening peace and universal security".

The Portuguese Prime Minister arrived in Luanda this Tuesday morning for a three-day official visit that began with laying a wreath at the Agostinho Neto Memorial, the first President of the Republic.

Luís Montenegro was then received with military honors at the Presidential Palace, where he met with the President, João Lourenço.

The Portuguese and Angolan delegations will meet shortly after the statements at the formal session and sign several legal instruments.

Montenegro's program continues this Tuesday immediately after a lunch hosted by the President of the Republic, with a visit to the Portuguese School of Luanda, followed by a visit to Fortaleza de São Miguel where you will visit the Military History Museum.
