This is the highest level since May 2017 and represents an increase of 19.75 percentage points in relation to the rate observed in the same period of the previous year, according to the Quick Information Sheet (FIR) of the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN), made available this Monday.

The "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" class contributed the most to the increase in the general price level with 1.33 percentage points during the month of June, followed by the classes: "Miscellaneous goods and services" with 0.19 percentage points, "Health" and "Clothing and footwear" with 0.11 percentage points each and "Hotels, cafes and restaurants" with 0.08 percentage points.

In monthly terms, consumer prices increased by 2.07 percent in June, the smallest increase since July 2023, after a 2.49 percent rise in May. The most significant price increases were seen in healthcare, clothing and footwear, miscellaneous goods and services, hotels, cafes and restaurants, and food and non-alcoholic beverages.

In the capital, Luanda, inflation stood at 42.82 percent, an increase of 31.46 percentage points compared to the same period, and registered a variation of 2.58 percent compared to the previous month.

The National Consumer Price Index measures the variation over time in the cost of a basket of 12 classes of goods and services whose most important component are food products and non-alcoholic drinks (56 percent of the total weight).

The persistent increase in prices in the country reflects the devaluation of the kwanza and the impact of the gradual withdrawal of fuel subsidies, associated with difficulties in the availability of currency.
