According to the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) of May 2024, prepared by the National Statistics Institute (INE) and consulted this Thursday by Lusa, the year-on-year variation stood at 30.16 percent, registering an increase of 19.54 percentage points compared to that observed in the same period of the previous year (May 2023).
Moxico (3.00 percent), Luanda (2.96 percent) and Benguela (2.51 percent) were the provinces that recorded the greatest variation in prices in May, with Huambo (1.26 percent), Lunda Norte (1.50 percent) and Cuanza Sul and Lunda Sul with 1.56 percent recorded the lowest variation.
The "transport" class was the one that recorded the biggest monthly price increase, with a variation of 11.23 percent. Also noteworthy are the price increases seen in the following classes: "health" with 3.23 percent, "clothing and footwear" with 2.84 percent and "miscellaneous goods and services" with 2.66 percent.
In year-on-year terms, inflation in Luanda soared to 41.58 percent, registering an increase of 31.25 percentage points compared to that observed in the same period of the previous year.
