According to the president of Abanc, Mário Nascimento, it is important to discuss the issue in order to survey the risks and opportunities, as well as to adequately define the role of the regulator in its incorporation.

The official, who was speaking this Friday at the 1st Conference on Sustainability in Banking, considered that the investment paradigm "focused only on financial return seems to be at stake, with its restitution being possible through models adjusted to new requests from investors".

"ESG and Sustainability in Banking" was the theme of this meeting, promoted in Luanda by Abanc, where Mário Nascimento highlighted the "close relationship between sustainability and the financial system and the important role of market regulators".

"From the outset, it is worth looking carefully at the impacts that the sustainability plan is already producing in the reference markets and in the respective regulatory and supervisory framework", he pointed out.

For the associative leader, the availability of new impact financing instruments, in the form of social investment funds "presupposes the need for their regulation and supervision in order to ensure their credibility and usefulness".

The panorama of ESG in the financial sector, perspectives of the regulator on ESG for Angola and ESG (set of criteria used to assess the performance of companies in relation to environmental, social and corporate governance issues) were some of the topics discussed at the meeting.
