Angola moves on to the next stage of qualification for the Basketball World Cup

After a defeat in their debut, the national basketball team won the next two games of the third qualifying window and guaranteed their presence in the next qualifying phase for the World Championship of the sport, which takes place in 2023 in several Asian countries.

In their debut, the Angolans were two points away from the victory against the host team of the qualifier, Ivory Coast (75-73). However, the national team did not demoralize, then winning the Guinea team by an expressive 85-65.

A defeat and a victory were enough to guarantee the second of the three spots that allowed them to advance in the qualification, and the selection returned to play this Sunday with the qualification guaranteed.

Against the Central African Republic, the Angolans prevailed again, ending regulation time with a victory by 16 points (76-60).

The pupils of Pep Cláros thus go on to the next stage of the qualifiers. In the fourth qualifying window, 12 teams will be divided into two groups, with the first two classified in each group being determined. The best third overall will also ensure continuity towards the world championship.

The Basketball World Cup takes place in three Asian countries (Indonesia, Philippines and Japan) between August 25 and September 10, 2023.
