"We want the SME, in addition to guaranteeing efficiency and effectiveness in monitoring the entry and exit of citizens from the national territory, as well as controlling migratory flows, to continue to reinforce the process of streamlining migratory acts, providing a speedy service and quality, for the satisfaction of the users who go to the public service stations, and not only", stated Eugénio Laborinho.
The official, who was speaking at the inauguration ceremony and the imposition of patents on officials from the National Police, SME, Penitentiary Services and Fire Service, considered it "imperative that the SME continues to contribute significantly to the process of promoting and attracting of foreign investment and tourism", for the diversification of the economy, the development of the country and the dissemination of culture and natural beauties.
Since last year, the SME has been experiencing difficulties in issuing ordinary and diplomatic passports, a situation that has raised numerous complaints from citizens, who are prevented from having this document, having been promised that by last May the situation, which is gradually returning to normal.
Eugénio Laborinho, addressing the Penitentiary Services, said that he wants to "provide an increasingly humanized and professional service, in favor of the rehabilitation and resocialization of inmates, especially young people".
The head of the Interior portfolio hoped that the Civil Protection and Fire Service will improve its action in helping the population, in cases of fires, floods, accidents, catastrophes, calamities and others.
