João Lourenço, who was speaking at the end of the opening ceremony of the gasoline production complex at the Luanda refinery, said that the crude oil produced was almost entirely exported.
"We define as a great challenge to face, the correction of this situation, has already been happening, not only with the launch of the construction of the Cabinda refinery, the launch of the construction of the refinery in Soyo and now the inauguration of this unit that will expand in four times the gasoline production capacity of the Luanda refinery", stated João Lourenço.
The head of state stressed that the objective of Angola becoming less and less dependent on the import of refined products is being fulfilled.
"We sold our raw material and basically bought from the same buyers of our raw material, we bought the finished product from them, which is diesel and gasoline, so we are going to reduce [this] considerably in the next few years. years (...) especially from the moment we have concluded, and in operation, the great refinery of Lobito that will make our country self-sufficient in refined petroleum", he underlined.
The President also mentioned that the country will save "a lot of foreign exchange" on gasoline imports, not only with the inauguration of the Luanda refinery, but in the set of projects underway.
"In two, three, years, I believe that the reduction in terms of foreign exchange expenditure on fuel imports will be quite large", he pointed out.
Angola will save around 300 million dollars annually on gasoline imports, with the quadrupling of this oil derivative at the Luanda refinery, rising from production of 395,000 to 1.5 million liters of gasoline per day.
