The President expressed his willingness to support the development of the African Continental Free Trade Area (FTAA), which is now facing the challenges of creating customs infrastructure to facilitate trade and investment.

The information was provided by the secretary general of the ZCLCA, Wamkele Mene, at the end of the hearing granted by the head of state.

According to Wamkele Mene, the ZCLCA is already a reality, with 39 countries signing and ratifying the agreement for the creation of this zone.

"It means that these 39 countries are committed to removing trade barriers and also creating African integration, through trade and investment. Certainly, soon, we will begin to see a new trade pattern," said the official.

Wamkele Mene said that this new trade pattern will boost the continent's economies, but like all organizations there are always initial challenges, which at this point have to do with the creation of customs infrastructure, in order to facilitate trade and investment.

"With the work of the entire world committed, I believe that we will soon be able to see new patterns of trade and investment in Africa. The free trade area is a reality," he stressed.

According to the official, the President reiterated Angola's commitment and also undertook to support the organisation's primary objective, to achieve regional or continental economic integration.

"The President also highlighted the importance of reducing trade barriers between countries and also stressed the need to increase trade between African countries, in the various types of local products that can help to strengthen the economies of African countries," he stressed.

Angola was the thirtieth country to ratify the agreement establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area.
